Tree of Life sculpture at Knowle West playground

It is worth visiting this sculpture in the newly opened Inns Court playground created by Yate Wood Carver Andy O'Neill. It is based on the Tree of Life and took ten days to complete using a chain saw on a giant redwood tree trunk. It's also to celebrate the One Tree per Child Project across Bristol - which aims to give every primary school child a tree to plant over a year.

Veteran sporting celebrities support memories project

Former sporting celebrities from Bristol came together for the exhibition of a memories project at City Academy. They included former Olympic and Commonwealth games runner Nick Rose and past professional lightweight boxer and ParaOlympic trainer Bob Fisher from Knowle. Former Olympic athlete, triple jumper Vernon Samuels who attended St Mary Redcliffe School also came to lend his support. Nick Rose who attended Merrywood School in Knowle West was discovered when competing on Filwood fields. The Sporting Memories Project has been taking place in venues across Bristol for two years, including Knowle West Media Centre. The project in Knowle West had been working with Bedminster Down pupils to research local photographs and record memories of older residents - and the exhibition was a celebration of their work.

Tonight saw a great combination of people, including the fabulous phresh boiiz, Davina Froom, Praminda from Bristol robotics & Rachael Miles from UWE. Chaired by Matt Little from RiO, the South Bristol candidates were challenged in a non conventional format. Great evening, great debate, thanks to everyone who came.

It's on us!

If you're ever around Park Street, do pop in for a free posture check. We want to help the community become more aware of the simple things like posture and how it can affect you. We recently had a great day out with the KWMC staff - we held a health talk and individual posture checks and now they're all sat up straight and dare I say, pain free?!

MemoryScapes Tea Party at KWMC last week

Last week Knowle West Media Centre hosted the MemoryScapes tea party. We had over 65 people attend and we showed them 10 short films we had made using the project's participants, as well as showing the archive of photographs we have collected alongside the reminiscence chest we created and a screening of the Knowle West TV footage we have. We transformed the studio space into a old fashioned tea room, serving free afternoon teas to all those who came. All in all, a great night was had by everyone!
